Mise-à-jour du 21 octobre 2015 : On apprend aujourd’hui que le SGDSN « prépare un rapport sur le secret-défense » qui « devrait notamment comprendre des statistiques sur la classification ». Dans le cadre d’une consultation qui vient tout juste de s’achever sur le projet de loi numérique, j’ai proposé un amendement visant à faire en sorte que ces statistiques publiques soient complètes et tenues régulièrement à jour.

Le « Grand Jury » mis en place l’an dernier par le ministère de la Justice américain, suite à la révélation des câbles diplomatiques par WikiLeaks, aurait bel et bien inculpé Julian Assange, sur le terrain de l’espionnage[1. Fred Burton, le vice président de Stratfor en charge du renseignement, a reçu un e-mail d’un ancien responsable du contre-espionnage au département d’État : “Not for Pub—We have a sealed indictment on Assange. Pls protect.” Dans un autre e-mail, Burton écrit : “Assange is going to make a nice bride in prison. Screw the terrorist. He’ll be eating cat food forever.”]. C’est là l’une des révélations majeures contenues dans les e-mails de la société de renseignement privée Stratfor, publiés cette semaine par WikiLeaks.

French Copwatch Ruling Continues Trend of Censorship

JURIST Guest Columnist Félix Tréguer, Policy and Legal Analyst at La Quadrature du Net, says that the recent ruling blocking the Copwatch website in France is just another instance of censorship under the Sarkozy government which prevents French citizens from learning of police abuse and engaging in democratic governance…

For the first time in France, cop-watching has made the headlines nationwide. Such publicity is the result of a groundbreaking case involving the Copwatch website designed for posting photos, videos and commentaries denouncing police abuse. In late September, the French Minister of the Interior, Claude Guéant, charged the authors of Copwatch with defaming, insulting and infringing the privacy of police officers. Following a fast-track procedure, a Paris district court ruled in favor of the government, declaring Copwatch illegal for several reasons. Faced with the impossibility of ordering the take down of Copwatch — hosted in the US where cop-watching is legal — the judge issued an injunction requiring the immediate blocking of the website by all major French Internet service providers. The authors remain anonymous and did not appear at their trial.
