The netCommons project is proud to announce the release of “Telecommunications Reclaimed: A Hands-On Guide to Networking Communities”!

Download it from HAL-SHS

This book is a guide on how to build a community network, a shared local telecommunications infrastructure, managed as a commons, to access the internet and other digital communications services. It was written collectively by a group of community network pioneers in Europe, activists and researchers during a writing residency week held in Vic, Catalonia in October 2018. It was a time of hard work and fast writing, but also of discussions in a friendly environment.

This post was first published on netCommons.

For the most part, the following is based on research conducted for an article I co-authored with Primavera De Filippi after interviewing several leading community networks in Europe that use wireless networks to provide Internet connectivity to their members, such as Guifi.net, Freifunk, Ninux or Tetaneutral.net. As we at netCommons start looking into the legal landscape surrounding community networks, I thought it would be useful to provide an updated version as a starting point for our research.
